Acoustic

Treatment solutions against noise

In basic terms there are two types of requirements for acoustic treatment:

  • Treatment against noise travelling through the air (airborne noise)
  • Treatment against noise travelling through the structure (structure-borne noise)

An airborne noise is magnified when it hits a solid wall and rebounds as an echo into the new noise being generated thereby increasing the noise level. This form of noise is treated via an absorption type insulation which works on absorbing the “echo” noise.

A structure-borne noise travels through a structure, transferring internal noise to the outside air. This form of noise is generally treated via two methods:- the first is to add mass to the insulation to act as an absorption barrier; the second is to isolate the equipment from the structure with isolation mounts.

There are many types of products on the market that offer either one or the other or a combination of both types of acoustic treatment. Mount Insulation & Sheetmetals will work with you to identify the most appropriate treatment for your needs.

Typical applications include:

  • Civil & Plumbing – stormwater pipes, waste pipes, cyclones, hoppers, plumbing traps and bends.
  • Commercial – the lining of ducts, plant rooms, lift wells, plenum barriers, ventilation and mechanical services shafts.
  • Industrial – machinery covers, process noise, compressors, pumps, generators.
  • Marine – engine rooms, generators, cabin areas, hatches and covers, vibration from wave lap.
  • Automotive – under the bonnet, gearbox, wheel arches.
